June 20, 2006 Skoll Foundation Appoints Lance Henderson Vice President, Program and Impact
Henderson joins the Skoll Foundation from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, where he held a number of executive positions throughout his 12-year tenure. Henderson served as the Director of Finance and Administration and later as the Director of Fund Development during a period of rapid expansion of the agency’s programs, funding and infrastructure. Most recently, he served as Interim Executive Director, leading the agency’s innovative public policy, client service and HIV prevention programs. During Henderson’s tenure, the $25 million agency more than doubled in size and was widely regarded as one of the most effective and well managed HIV organizations in the U.S. Concurrent with his work at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Henderson served as Chief Financial Officer and then as President of the Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation. There he played a leadership role in conceiving, organizing and funding this new foundation to expand HIV treatment access in resource-poor countries in Africa and Asia. Henderson began his career as a nonprofit executive in 1988 at The Names Project Foundation in San Francisco, following a successful investment banking career with Dean Witter Reynolds, where he managed a range of corporate finance relationships in the technology, real estate and biotechnology industries. Henderson will be a member of the Skoll Foundation’s executive team, led by President and CEO Sally Osberg. “Lance brings to the Skoll Foundation a wonderful combination of executive and grassroots experience mixed with energy and enthusiasm about the impact social entrepreneurs can have in solving complex global challenges,” said Osberg. “Lance’s work in the AIDS community has been truly remarkable, and we’re confident he will bring the same kind of creativity and leadership to the field of social entrepreneurship.” Henderson earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
